Connecticut Couple Arrested During Traffic Stop

Sheriff Donald B. Smith announces the arrest of a Connecticut couple on a variety of charges following a traffic stop in the Town of Southeast.

On January 29, 2010 at 2:21 a. m., Deputy Sheriff Randel Hill stopped a motorist who had committed a traffic violation on Route 6 in the Town of Southeast. The deputy determined that the driver, later identified as Deborah Waldron, 51, of Park Avenue, Danbury, Connecticut held a suspended license. The deputy arrested Ms. Waldron and charged her with Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle in the Third Degree, a misdemeanor. Pursuant to the arrest process, the deputy determined that Ms. Waldron was in possession of a "crack pipe" which contained crack cocaine residue. The deputy additionally charged Ms. Waldron with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Seventh Degree, a misdemeanor. Further investigation revealed that a passenger in the vehicle, identified as Gilberto Escribano, Jr., 37, of Park Avenue, Danbury, Connecticut was in possession of hypodermic needles. The deputy arrested Mr. Escribano and charged him with Possession of a Hypodermic Instrument, a misdemeanor.

The two defendants were processed at the Putnam County Correctional Facility. During arrest processing, the deputy determined that Ms. Waldron had initially misrepresented her identity as that of her sister, Dolores Waldron. Ms. Waldron had provided the false identity to the deputy because she is currently on probation and had hoped to avoid a probation violation. The deputy additionally charged Ms. Waldron with Criminal Impersonation in the Second Degree, a misdemeanor.

At that point, the deputy realized that the Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle charge against Deborah Waldron resulted from the fact that Deborah misrepresented herself as Dolores Waldron, who holds a suspended license. The deputy then investigated the validity of Deborah Waldron's license and determined that Deborah's license was suspended as well. As a result, Deborah Waldron remains charged with Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle in the Third Degree.

The defendants were held pending arraignment in the Town of Southeast Justice Court.

If found guilty of the misdemeanor charges, the defendants could face up to a year in jail and a fine of up to $1,000.00 for each charge.
