Dutchess County Teen Accused Of Stealing Wallet
Putnam County Sheriff Donald B. Smith reports the arrest of an eighteen year-old Dutchess County youth on grand larceny charges after being accused of stealing a man's wallet while at a Patterson gymnasium.
On March 14, 2008, the Putnam County Sheriff's Office received a complaint from Kent (NY) resident reporting that, while he was playing basketball at the Patterson Recreation Center, someone had removed his wallet from his pants pocket. The wallet reportedly contained cash, identification and several credit cards. Deputy Paul Piazza responded to conduct the initial investigation.
The case was turned over to Investigator Robert Ferris of the Sheriff's Bureau of Criminal Investigation. After conducting several interviews and retrieving forensic evidence, a suspect was developed.
Later that evening, Investigator Ferris and Deputy Piazza located and interviewed the suspect at the sheriff's office. Upon conclusion of the interview, Garrett R. Heidt of Berkshire Road, Wingdale, New York, was charged with Grand Larceny in the Fourth Degree, a Class "E" felony. He was arraigned before Patterson Town Justice John King and remanded Mr. Heidt to the Putnam County Correctional Facility in lieu of $5,000 cash bail pending a March 21, 2008 court date.
Upon conviction of Grand Larceny in the Fourth Degree, the court may impose a term of imprisonment for up to four years in a New York State correctional facility.
