Garrison Man Charged With Marijuana Possession

Sheriff Donald B. Smith reports the arrest of a Garrison man who was found to be in possession of marijuana during a traffic stop.

Deputy Sheriff Matthew Monroe was on patrol on Wood Street in the Town of Putnam Valley on March 9, 2008 at 9:15 p. m. when he stopped a vehicle for an equipment violation. Upon approaching the vehicle, the deputy detected the odor of marijuana emanating from the vehicle.

An investigation revealed that the driver was in possession of a quantity of marijuana. The deputy arrested the driver and charged him with Unlawful Possession of Marijuana, a violation. The defendant was released in his own recognizance pending a March 25, 2008 appearance in Putnam Valley Justice Court to answer the charge.

If found guilty of the violation charge, the defendant could face up to fifteen days in jail and a fine of up to $250.00.
