Mahopac Man Charged With Leaving Scene Of Accident
Sheriff Donald B. Smith announces the arrest of a Mahopac man on a charge of Leaving the Scene of a Personal Injury Automobile Accident.
On January 28, 2010 at 7:30 a. m., while on patrol, Deputy Sheriff Timothy Keith observed a heavily damaged vehicle at the intersection of Route 6N and Clark Place. Upon investigation, the deputy determined that the driver of the vehicle, who was injured, had been involved in a collision with the driver of another vehicle that had fled the scene. The deputy ordered the fire department and an ambulance dispatched to the scene, and initiated an investigation. The investigation revealed that Margarito J. Toxqui, 40, of 688 Route 6N, Mahopac, had been involved in the accident and had left the scene. The deputy arrested Mr. Toxqui and charged him with Leaving the Scene of a Personal Injury Automobile Accident, a misdemeanor. The defendant was arraigned before Town of Carmel Justice Joseph Spofford and committed to the Putnam County Correctional Facility in lieu of $10,000 cash bail or bond pending a future appearance in the Town of Carmel Justice Court to answer the charge. Due to issues concerning his immigration status, the defendant is the subject of an investigation by United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
If found guilty of the misdemeanor charges, the defendant could face up to a year in jail and a fine of up to $1,000.00.
