Town Of Southeast Woman Charged With DWI

Sheriff Donald B. Smith reports the arrest of a Town of Southeast woman for driving while intoxicated.

Deputy Sheriff Mathew Monroe was on patrol in the Town of Southeast on April 26, 2008 at 6:20 p. m. when he was dispatched to a report of an accident involving a car that had struck a utility pole along Turk Hill Road. Upon arrival, the deputy determined that the driver, Helen L. Huzar, 54, of 38 Carriage Hill Road, Brewster presented signs of alcohol intoxication. The deputy instructed Ms. Huzar to perform a series of standardized field sobriety tests, which the woman failed. Ms. Huzar also admitted to the deputy that she had been drinking prior to the accident. The deputy arrested Ms. Huzar and charged her with Driving While Intoxicated, a misdemeanor. The defendant was processed at the Putnam County Correctional Facility and released in her own recognizance pending a 05/21/08 appearance in the Town of Southeast Justice Court.

If found guilty of the misdemeanor charge, the defendant could face up to one year in jail and a fine of up to $1,000.00.
