Connecticut Man, Woman Face Felony Drug Charges
Putnam County Sheriff Donald B. Smith reports the recent arrest of a man and a woman from Connecticut on felony drug charges during a traffic stop.
On January 19, 2012 at 12:38 a.m., Deputy Sheriff Edward Kennedy stopped a motorist who had committed traffic violations on Secor Road in the Town of Carmel. During the course of the subsequent investigation, the deputy determined that the driver, identified as Paul E. Jackson, 19, of 2 Glenwood Road, New Milford, Connecticut was in possession of a substantial quantity of illegal controlled substances. The deputy arrested Mr. Jackson and charged him with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Third Degree and with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Fourth Degree, felonies. The deputy further determined that a passenger in the vehicle, identified as Gili R. Kahan, 16, of 10 Obtuse Road North, Brookfield, Connecticut was also in possession of a quantity of an illegal controlled substance. The deputy arrested Ms. Kahan and charged her with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Seventh Degree, a misdemeanor. The defendants were processed at the Putnam County Correctional Facility. Ms. Kahan was released to the custody of her parents pending a future appearance in the Town of Carmel Justice Court to answer the charge. Mr. Jackson was held pending arraignment.
If found guilty of the misdemeanor charges, Ms. Kahan could face up to a year in jail and a fine of up to $1,000.00. If found guilty of the felony charges, Mr. Jackson could face up to twenty five years in a New York State Correctional Facility and a fine of up to $30,000.00
