Mahopac Man Accused of Assaulting Another With a Cane
Putnam County Sheriff Donald B. Smith reports the arrest of a Mahopac resident on felony assault charges stemming from his alleged involvement in attacking a 45 year-old woman with a metal cane.
Sheriff’s investigators received the complaint from the victim who identified 57 year-old Joseph S. Strawn of 47 Union Valley Road, Mahopac, New York as the individual who struck her several times with the dangerous instrument causing severe bruising on several parts of her body. The incident occurred while the pair was engaged in a verbal argument at a Putnam Valley residence in early December of 2013.
Mr. Strawn was arrested on Tuesday, January 14, 2014 by Investigator Jeffrey Devolve of the Sheriff’s Bureau of Criminal Investigation. He was charged with Assault in the Second Degree, a class “D” violent felony and Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Fourth Degree, a class “A” misdemeanor.
Mr. Strawn was arraigned before Carmel Town Justice Thomas Jacobellis, acting on behalf of the Town of Putnam Valley Justice Court. He remanded Mr. Strawn to the Putnam County Correctional Facility in lieu of $2,500 cash bail. He is due to appear back in court on January 28, 2014 at 9:30AM.
If convicted of the assault charge, Mr. Strawn may be sentenced to a term of incarceration for a term of up to seven years in a New York State correctional facility as determined by a court.
