Sheriff's Narcotics Investigators Close Down Lake Peekskill "Grow House" -- Arrest Tenant
Putnam County Sheriff Donald B. Smith reports the arrest of a City of Yonkers resident following the investigation into a marijuana growing operation in the Lake Peekskill area of Putnam Valley.
In May of this year, the Sheriff’s Narcotics Enforcement Unit Hotline (845-225-DRUG) received a tip reporting unusual activity at a private residence on Walnut Drive. An undercover deputy assigned to the unit conducted an investigation into the report and was able to determine that the activity at the residence was consistent with the cultivation of marijuana.
The results of his investigation enabled him to apply for and receive a search warrant for the dwelling. The search warrant was issued by Putnam Valley Town Justice Louis DeCarlo.
On October 16th, members of the Narcotics Enforcement Unit arrested a 32 year-old man as he exited from the residence. The building was searched pursuant to the search warrant and upon entering the building officers located a sophisticated, state of the art, marijuana growing operation. Heavy duty power inverters, grow lamps, air scrubbers, humidifiers, self-feeding and watering pump systems were used in the cultivation of high grade marijuana plants. Aside from the equipment being seized, investigators seized 100 marijuana plants and $1,200 in cash. Additional evidence found in the house indicated that the suspect had cultivated and replenished his crop several times prior to his arrest. The owner of the of the property resides out of state and was not aware of the activities inside the house.
The tenant of the building was charged with Unlicensed Growing of Cannabis, a misdemeanor in violation of the Public Health Law. He was released without bail pending a future court appearance in Putnam Valley Justice Court. His name is not being released at this time since other aspects of this case remain under investigation.
“The eradication of this enterprise is very important to our community,” said Sheriff Donald B. Smith. “The suspect involved in this case engaged in a large-scale illegal enterprise furnishing marijuana to others. This case originated from Information furnished by a vigilant resident. It enabled our narcotics enforcement officers to dismantle this “grow house,” arrest a suspected major drug dealer, thus making the Lake Peekskill community safer and a better place to live, work and raise a family.” concluded the Sheriff.
