Southeast Woman Charged With Assault, Endangering Child
Putnam County Sheriff Donald B. Smith reports the recent arrest of a Town of Southeast woman on charges of assault and endangering the welfare of a child.
On October 4, 2013 at 8:28 a.m., Deputy Sheriff Andrew Kristan responded to a 911 “hang up” call at 50 Old Mine Road in the Town of Southeast. Upon arrival, the deputy encountered a 25 year old female victim who was bleeding from the nose. The victim advised the deputy that she became involved in a dispute with her mother, during which the mother punched the victim in the face, thereby causing the injury. The victim further reported that the assault occurred in the presence of the victim’s young child. The suspect, who was not on location upon the arrival of the deputy, was identified as Cathy M. Hightower, 44, of the same address. The deputy later located the suspect, arrested and charged her with Assault in the Third Degree and with Endangering the Welfare of a Child, misdemeanors. The defendant was arraigned in the Town of Patterson Justice Court and committed to the Putnam County Correctional Facility in lieu of $1,000.00 cash bail or $4,000.00 bond pending a future appearance in the Town of Southeast Justice Court to answer the charge.
If found guilty of the misdemeanor charges, the defendant could face up to a year in jail and a fine of up to $1,000.00 for each charge.
