Putnam County Sheriff Donald B. Smith reports the recent arrest of a Dutchess County man on misdemeanor traffic charges.
On January 7, 2014 at 11:28 a.m., while patrolling Route 52 in the Town of Carmel, Deputy Sheriff William Verrastro received a license plate reader alert of a passing vehicle bearing a suspended vehicle registration. The deputy initiated a traffic stop of the vehicle and determined that the driver, identified as Yuhanna M. McCallum, 23, of 412 Chelsea Cay, Wappingers Falls, New York held a suspended vehicle registration and a suspended license. The deputy arrested Mr. McCallum and charged him with Operating a Motor Vehicle While Registration is Suspended and with Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle in the Second Degree, misdemeanors. The defendant was processed at the Putnam County Correctional Facility and released after posting $250.00 cash bail pending a future appearance in the Town of Carmel Justice Court to answer the charges.
If found guilty of the misdemeanor charges, the defendant could face up to a year in jail and a fine of up to $1,000.00 for each charge.
